Voortrekker Monument

For my Afrikaans education and to play the touristy card in Pretoria I visited the Voortrekker Monument (thanks Flip!) ... it commemorates the history of the Afrikaaners who trekked inland from the Cape (the Voortrekkers) ... and is one of the top ten cultural historical visitor attractions in South Africa (so I'm told!).

Statue of mother and child symbolizing the culture during the Great Trek.

The corner figures form a guard of honour.

The 64 wagons around the outside are symbolic of protection of the monument.
